9 CE: Gaius Cinna, a Roman military tribune, is crossing the woods of Germania carrying documents to warn governor Varus about an impending revolt. Yet, Cinna is caught on his way, and when he recovers from unconsciousness shortly after, the ambush of Arminius and his army of mutinying auxiliary troops and rebels is history and three Roman legions have been wiped out in the Teutoburg Forest. Cinna himself is taken hostage by a Cheruscan noble.

Arminius, being not unchallenged among his people, tries hard to get his hands on this hostage. Thus, Cinna gets dragged into the tribal quarrels even deeper. More than just one time he has to fear for his life.

But he firmly keeps to his intentions to rescue himself. And even the noble's daughter has reasons to get away.

The following novel will be published December 2004 titled Die Schwerter des Tiberius (Tiberius' Swords); the final part of the trilogy is currently being worked on.
